Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can family members send new photos when the frame is online?
The manual describes a dedicated frame email address and web-album synchronization, and the former official product description also listed app sharing. Those distant routes need an internet-connected Wi-Fi network; they do not deliver new remote photos during an outage. Verify the exact model code PXT515WR08H rather than the newer LUX 15.
Explore this need in the finder →Can it keep showing locally supplied photos without internet?
Yes for stored photos and USB or SD-family media: the manual documents local memory, USB sticks and SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC. Someone nearby must supply the files. DLNA playback is different because its server and Wi-Fi network must stay available, and no fresh email or cloud upload arrives over an internet outage.
Explore this need in the finder →Is the 15-inch screen a resolution upgrade over the new LUX 15?
No. Pix-Star publishes 1024 × 768 for the older FotoConnect XD 15 and the newer LUX 15. The LUX 15 doubles the stated internal storage and adds newer wireless features, but its larger generation label does not mean a higher pixel count than the older 15-inch unit.
Explore this need in the finder →Earlier-model note: Pix-Star's current path for the former US 15-inch product now resolves to the newer LUX 15. This review identifies the older FotoConnect XD model code PXT515WR08H from the manufacturer-linked manual and historical product information; it does not claim a current offer, tested unit or complete current package.
Keep the two Pix-Star 15-inch generations separate
“FotoConnect XD 15” and “LUX 15” are not interchangeable seller titles. Pix-Star's official 15-inch user manual identifies model code PXT515WR08H, and the earlier manufacturer material calls the 15-inch Wi-Fi frame FotoConnect XD. The current US shop URL formerly used for Premium 15 now resolves to a different LUX 15 listing, SKU PXT615WR16K. Pix-Star describes that LUX 15 as new generation and says its 16 GB storage is twice the previous model's 8 GB. That is a meaningful generation boundary, not a color variation.
The older screen's published 1024 × 768 resolution and 4:3 shape are also listed for the new LUX 15. A larger label does not mean a higher pixel count here. The new LUX generation brings a newer interface, dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 according to current Pix-Star materials; the former FotoConnect XD listing described 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and did not list Bluetooth. Buyers comparing a used older unit with a new-generation frame should check the full model code, not rely on “15-inch Pix-Star.”
A large 4:3 display, with dated physical specifications
The former manufacturer catalogue described a 15-inch IPS LCD at 1024 × 768, with a 350 cd/m² brightness claim and 700:1 contrast. Its archived listing also gave outside dimensions of 14.0 × 11.4 × 1.3 inches and weight of 3.24 pounds. Those are the company's published figures, not measurements from this assessment. The live old shop route no longer gives a current product record, so a used unit should be measured directly if shelf clearance is tight; reserve space for its stand, power lead and access to the controls.
A 4:3 panel suits many camera photos, but it cannot make every phone image fill the screen without cropping or borders. The manual describes normal, collage and smart-fill slideshow modes, plus landscape and portrait slideshow orientation. It notes that portrait applies to the slideshow while the main menu remains landscape. Check the particular stand or wall setup before planning a vertical placement, and choose a no-crop or single-image mode when preserving the whole photo matters more than filling the panel.
Remote family sharing needs internet; local media is different
The manual explains a dedicated email address for the frame and online account/web-album tools. It describes synchronizing photos into local memory and opening photos from USB sticks and SD, SDHC, SDXC or MMC cards. The older product description also listed mobile-app sharing and remote management. A sender in another home still needs an internet-connected frame to deliver new email or cloud photos. Without internet, stored photos can continue to play and someone nearby can add local files; those are separate routes, not remote delivery during an outage.
The manual says web-album additions are copied to the frame's local memory, but removing a photo from the online album can remove its local copy too. Treat this as display synchronization, not an independent backup of originals. The manual also documents DLNA streaming from a local-network server, but says the server and Wi-Fi must stay available. DLNA therefore is not the same as loading a USB stick or card in a place with no network.
The former official listing described 8 GB of internal storage, while the manual states capacity of up to 30,000 pictures. Both are manufacturer claims rather than tested usable capacity; photo file sizes and system storage affect what fits. Pix-Star formerly said its cloud and core sharing features had no recurring frame fee. That is useful context, not a promise that today's service rules, account access or future support will remain unchanged.
Check the exact package, power and network before considering a used unit
The manual's package list names a frame, remote control, two remote batteries, AC adapter, manual and plastic stand; the former US shop description listed a US-plug power cord and attachable stand. No current or second-hand package was inspected for this assessment. Ask the seller to verify the PXT515WR08H label, power adapter voltage and connector, remote, stand, cosmetic condition, included cables and any wall hardware. The manual's generic package language gives AC 100/220 V, so rely on the actual adapter label rather than a seller's assumption.
The older product listing named 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, while its presently linked manual does not give a Wi-Fi generation or band. A network that requires browser-based sign-in or terms acceptance is not supported by the manual; a regular home router is the safer assumption for remote sharing. A frame that runs from a power adapter is not cordless, and local-photo playback does not remove the need for mains power.
Who might still compare the FotoConnect XD 15?
On documented features, this earlier model may suit someone deliberately looking for a large, corded 4:3 frame with local USB/SD playback and email or web-album sharing when internet is available. Its 8 GB generation and older 2.4 GHz claim are a different proposition from the new LUX 15's published 16 GB, dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. If a listing offers only “Pix-Star 15-inch,” or identifies another suffix, do not assume it is PXT515WR08H.
The former official US product route now points to the successor, so this page does not promise a new unit, used stock, warranty coverage, price or seller reliability. Confirm the exact model and contents in the actual listing, ask what service/account functions still work, and check return terms before deciding. This is desk research from Pix-Star's manual and former product information—not personal ownership, setup, image-quality testing or reliability testing.
